Homer Ballard Blevins, 83, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.


Homer was born on August 18, 1937 the son of the late Arvision and Nonie Blevins.


Our father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and papaw Homer to more people than can be counted, started life’s journey Wednesday, August 18 1937 in Whitetop, VA. ended Saturday, January 9, 2021 after 83 years, 4 months, and 22 days.


He lived a wonderful life doing what he loved. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Other favorites include, salt water fishing, hunting, trout fishing, bee keeping, and loved to travel. His adult life journey started in Washington D.C. where he worked at the Capitol building as a messenger and met his future bride. Then on to Maryland, Woodbridge VA. and started his family. Then, he started his plumbing business in South Carolina and Georgia where he worked for Carolina Eastman. Eventually, he ended up back at home here, in Washington County VA. where he loved.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvison and Nonie (Dolinger) Blevins; his wife, Gladys Lorraine Blevins; his son in law Kenneth Statzer; his brothers Ralph, Paul, Carl, Hugh (Buster); his sisters, Cleada and Leroy Rhodes, and Eva Gray Blevins Lindsey.


He leaves behind to keep his memory alive Mark Douglas Blevins and Teresa (Tooty); Barry Alan Blevins; Phillip Lee Blevins; Cynthia (Cindy) Statzer & Gene; all of Glade Spring VA.; his sister, Geneva and Lou Miller of Aiken, SC.; his brother-in-law, Bruce & Dreama Blevins of WV; his sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dot) Blevins of Bristol VA.; his grandchildren, Christopher Blevins of Blountville, TN., Devin Lee Statzer of Glade Spring VA., Wesley Widener, Cody Parris, Caitlyn Pennington of Radford VA., Jordon and Dalton Blevins; his bonus grandchildren, Bella , Dayton, Hayden, Rozie, Haley Moody and Laken Sneed; several nieces and nephews that loved him like a father; special friend, Joyce Marion and her children, Sheri, William, Teri, Eric, Hailey, Kelsey, Kristen, and 4 young boys who adored him; special friends for life, Shirley Brown and Jerry and their children, Gay Leonard of Abingdon, VA.


A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M at Green Cove Missionary Baptist Church. A service will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Revs. David Gary and Dennis Poe officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.


Pallbearers include, Chris Blevins, Barry Blevins, Devin Statzer, Robbie Fain, Dan Collins, and Cody Parris. Honorary Pallbearers include, Bobby Blevins and Johnny Toliver.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 35411 Loves Mill Road, Glade Spring, VA. 24340.
