E.M. “Bud” Schaffer, Jr., age 85, passed away March 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Abingdon.
Mr. Schaffer was born May 7, 1932 to the late Ervin and Alma Schaffer. A native of Ohio but has lived in Abingdon since 1941. A graduate of William King in 1949, he then attended Emory and Henry College and VPI before joining the Air Force in 1951. While in the Air Force he fought in the Korean War as a fighter pilot. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Schaffer; and one beloved dog, Sam.
Survivors include, daughter, Judy Brownlow and husband Jerry; son, Brad Schaffer; brother, Robert Schaffer and wife Ginger; two grandchildren, Layla Smith and Briana Schaffer; three great grandchildren, Izabella Smith, Solana and Nyellie Valles; also, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 pm until 8 pm Friday, March 16, 2018 at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Knollkreg Memorial Park with military honors provided by the United States Air Force and Highlands Veteran Honor Guard with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Family and friends please arrive at the mausoleum by 10:45 am.
