Alma Gertrude Estes

Alma Gertrude Estes, 89, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 4, 1929, in Washington County, Va., to the late Jim and Amanda Stout.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Glen W. Estes, Sr.; two sisters, Dorothy Hudler and Kate Silcox; and one brother, Wyndom Stout.

Alma was a dedicated employee of the Abingdon Senior Center where she worked for over 20 years, she could often be found helping out in anyway possible.  She loved sewing and making quilts. She was a member of Trigg Street Church of God.

She is survived by her four children, Shirley Pierce of Gray, Tenn., Glen W. Estes, Jr. and wife, Lynn of Butler, Tenn., Steven L. Estes and wife, Donna of Johnson City, Tenn., and Timothy M. Estes, Sr., and wife, Angela of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren, Nikkie Moulton, Amanda Estes, Jeremy Greene, Dustin Greene, Daniel Greene; Crystal Throckmorton, John Lee, Tiffany Hibbitts, Ashley Hale and Timothy Estes, Jr.; several great grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Myrick of Asheville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to her caregivers, Freda Canter and Peggy Hale for their love and concern.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday, November 19, 2018, at Trigg Street Church of God.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday at the church with Pastor Steve Vaughan officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Estes, Jr., Joseph Hatcher, Dustin Greene, John Lee, John David Lee, Alex Moulton, Aaron Throckmorton and Brad Hibbitts.  Honorary pallbearers will be her Rook Card playing partners at the Abingdon Fire Department.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts can be made to the Trigg Street Church of God Building Fund, 333 Trigg Street, Abingdon, Va., 24210.
