Thomas Michael Abel, 63, passed from this life to his heavenly home in the early morning hours of Monday, October 2, 2023.

Tommy was born to Joseph L. Abel, Jr. and Virginia Greer Abel on February 27, 1960. He attended Cleveland Elementary School and after graduating from Abingdon High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army. After returning to Abingdon, he worked at several occupations and ran his own lawn care business before becoming disabled.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Phil Lucas.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sue Ellen Hearl Abel, sons, Justin Abel and Cameron Abel (Azen), grandson Wade Abel; two sisters, Jane Abel Lucas and Patricia Abel Keene (Glenn); one brother, Kevin W. Abel (Jane). Tommy is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 6:00 P.M. at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Danny Hearl officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Military honors will be rendered by the Virginia Highlands Honor Guard.

The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and help during the past several months, especially to the PCU unit at Johnston Memorial Hospital and to Dr. Hiett.
