Samuel Raymond Burke, 81, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on July 12, 2022.

He was born in and lived most of his life in Abingdon, VA. He was known as Poppy to everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Carrie Burke; sister, Elsie; brothers, Vernie, Melvin, Gene, J.C., Garland, and Les Burke; daughter, Mary Shortt.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell (Jean) Burke; children, Lisa Bowman, Samuel Burke II, Jesse Burke, and Marie Slagle; brother, George (Ronnie) Burke; sister, Marie McGlamery; his most loved companion, Chaco.

He loved his nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

At his request, there will be no services.
