Ruth "Polly" Caroline Atkins, 92, of Meadowview, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 27, 1934, in Meadowview, Virginia, Polly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Epperson Atkins; her son, William Atkins; her daughter, Joyce Hayden; and her brothers, Frank Wilson and Ruben Wilson.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Johnny Atkins; her daughters, Bea Rosenbaum; Peggy Whitehead and husband, Scott; and Vivian Freeman and husband, Jerry. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Whitehead and wife, Amanda; April Morrison and husband, Matt; Michelle Lewis and husband, Tony; and Susan Gill and husband, Chad; along with several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, and many dear friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Minister Ron Musick. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:45 a.m.
