Obituary

Roger Thomas Lester, age 86, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Roger was born on December 15, 1939, the son of the late Ira Lester and Mildred Lester. He was one of nine children and grew up as part of a large and close-knit family.

Roger was a hardworking, selfless, and kind man who devoted his life to providing for and caring for his family. He worked for Burlington Industries for 25 years before continuing his career with Zenith Fuel Systems, where he worked from 1987 until his retirement in 2005.

Roger was a member of Carvosso United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Annette Lester; his three children, Deborah Kiser and husband Steve, Gary Lester and wife Tammie, and Gina Rowe and husband Kevin; his grandchildren, Ryan Grubb, Kayla Wyatt, Gavin Lester, Hailey Rowe, and Grayson Rowe; and his great-grandchildren, Maston, Mallory, Cassidy, and Sadie.

He is also survived by his siblings, Alice Clawson, Wayne Lester and wife Debbie, and Jerry Lester and wife Gail, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his siblings, Charlie Branch, Lorene Woodward, Don Lester, Bill Lester, and Betty Thomas.

Roger will be remembered most for the way he lived his life—with a strong work ethic, a generous and selfless nature, and kindness toward those around him. Above all, he loved his family; the life he built has set the example and will remain the standard for generations to come.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. Frost Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
