Rodney Phil
Marshall
Apr 17, 1943 — Nov 4, 2026
Rodney Phil Marshall, 83, of Bristol, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Born on April 17, 1943, in Wise County, Virginia, Rodney was the son of the late Ray W. and Hazel Marshall.
Rodney was a hardworking, devoted family man who believed in the value of an honest day’s work. He spent part of his working years in the coal mines before beginning his career with Ball Corporation, where he remained until his retirement.
A country boy at heart, Rodney found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved farming, coon hunting, deer hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was happiest doing the things he loved and enjoying the life he had worked so hard to build.
Rodney was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He didn’t need grand gestures or lengthy conversations to show how much he cared. Instead, he expressed his love through the things he did, the work of his hands, and his quiet dedication to his family. His strength, determination, and steady presence were gifts to those who knew him.
Though his voice may now be quiet and his work here is done, the love he gave so freely through his actions will continue to live on in the hearts of his family. He leaves behind not only cherished memories, but also a lasting example of what it means to love through doing.
In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Marshall, Sharon Marshall Cross, Carolyn Marshall, and David Marshall.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Hale Marshall of Bristol, Virginia; his son, Gregory Phil Marshall and wife Candee of Bristol, Tennessee; and his daughter, Kimberly Marshall and her partner, Mandie Gilliam, of Bristol, Virginia.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Gregory Marshall II and wife Ashley, Ryan Marshall, Maylee Marshall, Ensleigh Gilliam, Alayna Gilliam, and Avery Gilliam; and his precious great-grandchildren, Abigail and Matilda Marshall.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM at Frost Funeral Home, 250 East Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia. A celebration of Rodney’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Zachary Marshall officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Mountain View Cemetery & Cremation Gardens, 2090 Valley Drive, Bristol, Virginia 24201.
Pallbearers will be Greg Marshall, Gregory Marshall II, Ryan Marshall, Jonathan Cross, Zach Marshall, Aaron Marshall and Byron Marshall.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate staff of Gentiva Hospice for the kindness, dignity, and loving care shown to Rodney during his final days.
Frost Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the family of Rodney Marshall.
