Regenia Kestner, 86, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed peacefully at home after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Hill; her mother, Rosie Hill; and her brother, J.C. Hill.

Regenia was a loving wife and mother who loved her family deeply, especially her daughter, Melissa. She loved her home and took pride in her pretty things. She enjoyed shopping and yard sales with her sister, Geraldine, and her cousin, Faye. Regenia had a strong personality and was known for being a little stubborn—and, fittingly, her favorite word was “no.” She was also a worrier, often because she cared so deeply about the people she loved.

Regenia had a soft heart and was a kind and caring person. She shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Snuggles, whom she loved dearly. Although Snuggles passed away a couple of years ago, she remained a cherished part of Regenia’s memories.

Regenia is survived by her husband of 59 years, Horton Kestner; her daughter, Melissa Kestner-Clay; son-in-law, Kampton Clay; grandson, Ray De La Cruz and wife Leny; sister, Geraldine Morefield; close cousin, Faye Price; nephews, Glen Hill and his wife, Kim, and Darrell Hill and his wife, Connie; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews and numerous cousins.

Special thanks go to her sister Geraldine, her cousin Faye and her sisters-in-law, Joyce Braun and Mary Seymore, and close friend Connie Clay for providing loving companionship, support, and care during her illness.

The family also extends special thanks to Trevis Lightfoot for his friendship and support. Regenia appreciated Trevis’s thoughtful visits and the candy treats he brought, small kindnesses that meant a lot to her.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Caris Hospice and the hospice nurses and caregivers who cared for Regenia and provided comfort, compassion, and support to her and her family during her final days.

Regenia will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her kindness, strong spirit, love of family, and tender heart will remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

In accordance with Regenia’s wishes, there will be no formal service. The family will celebrate her life privately at a later time.
