Obituary

Raymond Crockett Williams (1938 - 2024) passed away at his home in Glade Spring on Friday, August 9, 2024 with his wife of 58 years Nancy Jones Williams at his side. He  was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and graduated from Pocahontas High School. He joined the United States Army in 1959 and served honorably with the 504th Ordnance Detachment in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  He earned his bachelor's degree from Emory and Henry College in 1965 and completed coursework toward a masters degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.  He worked for many years as a teacher and vocational rehabilitation counselor.  He retired from serving the Commonwealth of Virginia before starting a second career as an aviation mechanic.  He was an avid aviator, licensed private pilot, and owner of a Cessna 172. He loved to fly, especially early on Sunday mornings.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: a son, Thomas Williams, his wife, Dawn Graybeal Williams and their children Ethan and Erin Williams; by a daughter, Lisa Williams Bourbonnais, her husband, Richard, and their children Christian and Grayson Bourbonnais; and by a sister, Brenda Williams Stultz and her son, Chad Stultz. Raymond is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mabel Williams of Abbs Valley, Virginia, a brother Kenneth Williams, also of Abbs Valley, a sister, Wanda Jean Williams Hare of Norfolk, Virginia, and a nephew, Joseph (Josh) Stultz of Bluefield, West Virginia.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM at Frost Funeral Home on Monday August 12, 2024 with public visitation preceding at 10:00 AM. Private interment at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Glade Spring Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 668, Glade Spring, VA 24340.
