Peggy Groseclose Vaughan, 100, passed away September 23, 2026, at Oakmont Assisted Living in Bristol, VA.

She was born in Abingdon, VA, on August 11, 1926, to the late Harry Owen and Elsie Wright Groseclose.

Peggy attended William King High School and, after graduation, worked for the telephone company in Abingdon, where she was a switchboard operator. She also worked for the Foremost Dairy in Bristol, VA, for a short time. Peggy loved children, and in 1972, she began her own home-based day care.

Peggy loved cooking and spending time outdoors, and she was especially fond of the beach. She was a long-time member of Meadowview United Methodist Church in Meadowview, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles “Sam” Vaughan; four brothers, Harry Groseclose Jr., James Groseclose, Bill Jack Groseclose, and Darrell Groseclose; and two sisters, Brenda Morefield and Nancy Badger.

Peggy is survived by one son, Michael Vaughan (Mary Ann), of Silver Spring, MD, and one daughter, Teresa V. Swiney (David), of Bristol, VA; three grandchildren, Brent Swiney, Rebecca Vaughan, and Brad Swiney; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating.

Peggy will be remembered for her love of family, generous spirit, and the many lives she touched throughout her long and full life.
