Obituary

Oscar Childress, 88, of Abingdon, VA. passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Oscar was born on December 17, 1933 in Leemaster, VA. to the late Johnny Arnold and Beuna Childress.

Oscar was a member of Concord New Garden Primitive Baptist Church.

Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Martha E. Matney (Hibbert), Hassie M. Boyd (Irson), Eva Gaye Robbins (Charles); brother, Arnold F. Childress (Roxine); his first wife and the mother of his children, Novella Carol Childress; his second wife, Virginia Smith.

He is survived by his sisters, Murriel Stiltner (Harold) and Kathleen Walker (Scott); brothers, Lawrence Childress (Ida), Clarence Childress (Doris), Lonzo Childress (Rachel), Donald Childress (Kathy), Joshua Savage (Cathy); daughters, Patricia Ratliff (Jack), Brenda Miller (Baker), Barbara Ratliff (Don), Doris Boyd, Connie Triplett; sons, William Childress (Tina), Gary Childress (Carmella); twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, church family, and friends.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Frost Funeral Home with Elder Ted Stacy officiating. A committal service will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
