Nancy Louise
Castle
Jan 31, 1938 — Oct 17, 2026
January 31, 1938 – October 17, 2026
Nancy B. Castle, affectionately known as “Baby Doll,” lived a life marked by faith, love, service, and an unwavering devotion to the people she held dear. Born on January 31, 1938, in Lebanon, Virginia, she was one of eleven children and remained a proud Virginian throughout her life. She passed away on October 17, 2026, surrounded by loved ones leaving behind a legacy that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
Nancy was a woman of many gifts, but perhaps none was more evident than her extraordinary ability to connect with children. A graduate of James Madison University with a degree in Education, she devoted much of her life to teaching, nurturing, and encouraging young minds. She served as a preschool teacher and authored children's literature, Vacation Bible School units, and Women's Missionary units, using her talents to educate, inspire, and share her faith with others.
Together with her beloved husband, Leon W. Castle, Nancy co-led conferences on Sunday School and marriage enrichment, sharing their knowledge and experience to strengthen families and encourage others in their faith and relationships. Their 69-year marriage was a testament to a lifetime of partnership, commitment, and shared purpose.
Above all her accomplishments, Nancy treasured her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and she loved them with her whole heart.
Nancy found happiness in life's simple pleasures and had a special talent for making ordinary moments memorable. She loved to travel, read, and challenge herself with games and puzzles, earning her reputation as a true connoisseur of both. She possessed an incredible green thumb, bringing beauty to the world around her through her love of plants and flowers. Daisies held a special place in her heart, as did the historic charm and beauty of Williamsburg, Virginia. Nancy is preceded in death by her loving husband Rev. Leon W. Castle, mother Elinor Lee Sykes Breeding, father Arnold Albert Breeding, sisters Ruth Musick, Lillian Smith, Ilene Stiff, Clemence Breeding, brothers Jack Breeding, John Breeding, Charlie Breeding, James Breeding, Joe Breeding, Scottie Breeding and son Leon Walton Castle Jr. (Lonnie).
Survivors include daughter Karen Castle Smith (Kerry); daughter Kristie Castle Wallis (Charlie); daughter-in-law Patti Castle; grandchildren Josh Castle, Jonathan Smith (Hannah), Allie Smith Pitt (Austin), Zac Castle, Becca Castle, Chad Castle, Karrington Wallis, Karaline Wallis; great grandchildren Nolan Pitt, Burkleigh Franklin and Arden Parker-Smith as well as numerous relatives, countless friends and the many people whose lives were forever touched by her ministry.
Her beloved husband, Rev. Leon W. Castle passed away two months prior to her death. After spending most of their lives together, the family has decided to hold a joint “Celebration of Life” at Lebanon Baptist Church, the church where they were married 69 years before on Friday, October 23 at 2pm with the graveside to immediately follow. They look forward to celebrating Nancy and Leon’s incredible lives together and honoring their memory. The address of the church is 182 W. Main St., Lebanon, VA 24266.
