Mary Elizabeth Atwell, age 93, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

She was born in 1931, in Washington County, a daughter of Scott Winfield Miller and Sarah Elizabeth Counts Miller.  She lived her entire life in the Whites Mill and Greendale areas of Washington County.  She was a homemaker and had worked as a teachers' aid at Greendale Elementary School for several years.  She was a 1949 graduate of Greendale High School and also a graduate of Mary Frye Secretarial School.  She was a volunteer at Johnston Memorial Hospital for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Blane; brothers, Paul, Tom, and Guy; sisters, Carrie, Elsie, and Lena.

She is survived by her husband, James C. (Jack) Atwell; two sons, Frank and John (Maribel).

A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Knollkreg Memorial Park with Pastor Jerry A. Eggers and Pastor Marsha Rasnake officiating.  There will be no formal visitation.  Memorial contributions may be made to Rich Valley United Methodist Church, 22285 Rich Valley Road, Abingdon, VA  24210 or Greendale Chapel, P.
