Marilou Hall Preston born June 1, 1935, in Washington County, Virginia to the late George Avery Hall and Louise Fortune Hall passed away on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, at English Meadows Senior Living in Abingdon, Virginia.
Marilou was the organist at Rock Spring Presbyterian from 1957 until 2021. She was graduated from Damascus High School, attended Virginia Intermont for one year and then enrolled at Duke University. Marilou was graduated from Duke University in 1956 (Phi Beta Kappa) and married Robert G. Preston, Jr. on December 23, 1956. Marilou began her professional life as an English teacher at the former Damascus High School for one year before she left to begin raising a family with Bob. After her children were grown, Marilou later worked as a librarian for the Washington County Public Library in Glade Spring, Virginia.
Marilou is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert G. “Bob” Preston, Jr., her sister Eleanor Hall Hutton (Emory, Va.), her brother John D. Hall (Houston, Texas) her children Robert G. Preston, III (Mary Lynn), Joseph Fortune Preston, and Sarah Preston Barker (Keith), her grandchildren Eric F. Barker (Sarah), Daniel G. Preston, Ellen Barker Sealock (Warren), and her great granddaughter Annabelle Lucy Barker, and many cousins.
Visitation will be at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon on April 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on April 2, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Mock Cemetery in Damascus, Virginia with Pastor Don Paxton officiating.
The pallbearers will be Jason Thomas, Will Copenhaver, Mark McConnell, Gene Copenhaver, Daniel Preston, and Eric Barker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Lester, Tom McCall, Sam Rayburn, and Pastor Virgil “Buddy” Blevins.
The family expresses their appreciation for the compassionate care and concern of all of the staff at English Meadows.
