Obituary

Laura Steward Stricker passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026. She was born on April 25, 1955, to the late George and Suzanne Steward.

She longed above all else to live out her golden years surrounded by her children, Scott and Sean, grandchildren, Savannah, Sloan, and Sidney, and sisters, Elaine, Lisa, and Peggy. Sadly, cancer denied her that time. Born and raised in Connecticut, she moved south to attend college. After graduating from Duke University, she devoted 35 years to nursing, serving patients at both Duke and UNC hospitals.

She raised her sons as a single mother, ensuring they never went without—even when it required her to sacrifice her own needs. Through her unwavering dedication, quiet strength, and unconditional love, she gave her children the foundation to lead successful and meaningful lives. Ever the caretaker, she also tended to her parents and uncle in their final days with the same compassion that defined her career and her life.

In the end, she left behind no great material wealth. Yet, through the love she gave so freely—and the love she received in return from family, friends, and even strangers—she passed as one of the richest women on earth. May her life, marked by compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and selfless love, stand as a lasting example in these troubled times.
