Abingdon, Virginia Laura Kaye Shortt, 58, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in her sleep at home. Her fiancé Jeff Wingler, and love of her life, was with her. She enjoyed motorcycle riding and telling jokes with her dad. Laura spent 20 years caring for her mother until she passed. Laura was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Nell Shortt; her brother, Michael Shortt; her paternal grandparents, James and Ethel Shortt; and her maternal grandparents, Everett Brown and Willie Eddy. Laura is survived by her father, Richard Shortt; her brother, Dr. Richard Shortt (Charlotte); her sister, Patricia Price (David); her fiancé, Jeff Wingler; her stepdaughter, Amber Wingler (Zandra); her stepson, Adam Wingler and family. Laura loved all her nieces and nephews, her very special momma Jean Burker and all her dear friends. Celebration of life will be held on March 29, 2026, at 12:30 P.M. at the Abingdon 4-H Center in Abingdon, Virginia.
