Julian L. McConnell, age 78, passed away on September 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, at the home of his son, Adam, following a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Julian was born in Abingdon, Virginia, on July 4, 1948. He lived in the Alvarado community of Abingdon, Virginia, in Washington County. He was a graduate of Abingdon High School and served as an Army Reservist for six years. Julian worked driving a truck for Food City for 15 years and had logged since he was 14 years old.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Tammy; two sons, Nathaniel of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Adam and wife, Mary, of Abingdon, Virginia; three daughters, Marinda Skeesick and husband, Aaron, of Nashville, Tennessee, Pamela Wilson of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Linda McConnell of Abingdon, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Danny McConnell, whom he loved dearly, and his sister, Suzanne Canter.

Upon his request, Julian wished to be cremated with no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be determined.

The family would like to thank his many doctors and caregivers. Special thanks are extended to his daughter-in-law, Mary, for all the loving care she gave him; Dr. Allison Whitman, Bailey Musick; Adoration Home Health for the loving care they provided; Elite Hospice; his nurse, Chris; social worker, Sharon; and Caleb for bathing him and providing him with the best of care.

We want to thank all of our family and friends who helped us. We love you all.
