Joseph Cummings Campbell, age 78, passed away at the hospice house in Bristol, Tennessee. Born and raised in Abingdon, Joe attended Abingdon High School where he met Barbara who would become his wife. Joe continued his education at VPI, and he and Barbara were married in 1967. They were happily married for 58 wonderful years.

Upon graduating in 1969, with a degree in Civil Engineering, he accepted a position with Texaco Oil in New Jersey. While in New Jersey he obtained his professional engineers and land surveyors' certification. He remained in New Jersey for eight and a half years and accepted a transfer to Houston, Texas in 1975. He was licensed in New Jersey and Texas.

His career continued for five and a half years with Texaco in Houston, until he decided to return to Virginia to help his dad maintain the family farm. He never regretted that decision as he truly loved farming.

After he returned to Abingdon, he had the opportunity to once again attend his beloved Virginia Tech football games. He always made time for home games and bowl games.
