Johnny Lee Smith, 72, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 22, 1951, to the late Robert Bob and Margaret Phillips Smith. Johnny loved anything that involved the outdoors and especially, playing golf with his son, Matt. He was a member of the Upper East Tennessee Golf League. Johnny enjoyed tending his flower garden and traveling with his wife. His greatest joy was chasing and playing with his grandchildren, whom he adored. He attended Pleasant View Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Fritz Smith; sister, Janie Shaver; two brothers, R.J. Smith and J.T. Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lavone Widener Smith; son, Matt Smith and wife Amanda; stepson, Scott Widener and wife Robin; sister, Linda Hall and husband Rick; brother-in-law, Jerry Shaver; mother-in-law, Gail Fritz; three grandchildren, Ensley Smith, Greyson Smith, and Brooks Smith; two step grandchildren, T.J. Widener and wife Callee and Kaylee Widener. Johnny is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vann Seal and Speaker T.J. Widener officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia.
Jeff Fritz, Brent Dyson, Travis Dyson, Rick Widener, Tom Necessary, Todd Cooper, D.A. Lambert, and Joseph Lawson will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers include Rick Hall, Jerry Shaver, Bert Snodgrass, Charles Colvin, Jr., J.D. Henegar, and Jerry Fritz.
