Obituary

John Stephen Boardwine "Steve", age 60, of Charlotte, NC, passed away June 11th 2026. He was born February 10th 1966 in Lebanon, VA to parents John White Boardwine and Ada Garrett Boardwine. He graduated from Lebanon High School and later graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s in Accounting.

He moved to Greensboro, NC after college and worked with Price Waterhouse Coopers, serving as a Senior Tax Manager. He later moved to Bristol, VA to be closer to family and was Vice-President of Tax at King Pharmaceuticals. He moved to Charlotte, NC where he worked at Lending Tree as Senior Director of Tax until his early retirement.

Beyond his career, he loved music and sports. He was especially interested in football and golf. His favorite teams were Virginia Tech and the Minnesota Vikings, both of which he rarely missed a game whether in person or via broadcasting. He was an avid golfer who traveled the country to play at many esteemed courses with good friends and always had stories to tell of the trips. He was an active member of Weddington Methodist Church in Weddington, NC.

Steve is survived by his sister Donna Davis (Tony), nieces Jennifer, Courtney, and Caitlin, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who have shared wonderful memories with him over the years.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA with Rev. Dalton Richardson officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. with funeral service following at 2:00 P.M. with private interment to follow the service. For anyone wishing to donate in his memory, we ask that donations be made to Weddington Methodist Church (13901 Providence Road, Weddington, NC 28104), Our Daily Bread Ministries, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
