Joan Faye Davenport

Joan Faye Davenport, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Holston Valley Medical Center, with her loving husband and children by her side.

Born on July 25, 1949, in Abingdon, Virginia, Joan was the daughter of the late Helen and Robert Venable. She dedicated 15 years of her life working as a home health caregiver, a role that reflected her compassionate nature and deep care for others.

Joan found great joy in growing her flowers and nurturing the beauty around her. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her world.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bobby Venable and Phil Venable.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 57 years, Dewey Wayne Davenport, Sr.; her two children, Judy Lane Nichols and Dewey Wayne “Brother” Davenport, Jr.; five grandchildren, Billy Mullins, Kandice Smothers, Samantha O’Kane, Isaiah Nichols, and Isabella Nichols; six great-grandchildren, Braxton Metcalf, Aurya Mullins, Eleanor O’Kane, Finley Smothers, Micah Smothers, and a baby boy Smothers on the way; and one brother, Mark Venable (Sandy).

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia, with a service to follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Mike Switzer.

A committal service will follow on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Blackwell Chapel Cemetery in Meadowview, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Henderson, Joey Davenport, Billy Mullins, Isaiah Nichols, J.D. Davenport, and Jeff Davenport.
