Janice Mae Sword of Abingdon, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 02, 2025, at NHC Healthcare of Bristol, VA.

Ms. Sword loved going shopping and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors especially music events. She also enjoyed playing bingo. Ms. Sword was a member of Mountain View Community Church in Lebanon, VA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Holmes and Elma Holmes; one brother, Jimmy Holmes; one sister-in-law, Tootsie; and nephew, Joey Holmes.

Survivors include her four siblings, Lois Rasnake (Harold) of Cleveland, VA, Charles "Gene" Holmes (Glenna) of Abingdon, VA, Nancy Meridith of Griffin, GA, and Benny Holmes of Abingdon, VA; one nephew, Steve Rasnake; nieces, Susan Bowen, Toni Ball, Melanie Smiley, and Jennifer Clark, and several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thank you to great niece Bre (Blondie) Clark, and also a special thank you to NHC Healthcare and Caris Healthcare.

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 05 2025, at Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon, VA, with Pastor Darrell Harmon and Pastor Nancy Musick officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 AM

Serving as pallbearers will be, Grant Smiley, Elmer Bentley, Bre Clark, Mike Stoots, Trent Musick, and Ron Hubbard.
