Janet Patterson, 77, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025. She was born on March 13, 1948, to the late Walter and Irene Whelchel.

Janet lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She spent over 17 years making candles, sharing her craft and creativity with others. She also worked as a bank teller at Washington County Bank, where she was known for her friendly smile and caring nature. An avid animal lover, especially of dogs, Janet was always ready to open her heart to those in need—both two-legged and four-legged.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, finding her greatest joy in spending time with her loved ones. Janet's heart was especially big for her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Barb Goebel; and her stepson, Ian Patterson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Doug Patterson; her daughter, Christine Kegley, husband Derrick; and her three cherished grandchildren, Lila Patterson, Max Kegley, and Scarlett Kegley.

Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and compassion will live on through the lives she touched.
