Obituary

Janet Darlene McCrady Jackson, age 84, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday August 5, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tennessee.

She was born at home in Glade Spring, Virginia, December 7, 1941, a daughter of the late Ballard McCrady and Bessie Cullip McCrady. She lived her entire life in the Glade Spring area and was a 1959 graduate of Glade Spring High School. She worked at several places through the years including Glade Spring Shirt Factory and Pearce Dry Cleaners. She also delivered newspapers for many years throughout the region. She started driving a school bus for the Washington County, Virginia School System in 1976. Her first assignment was to transport Special Education students to Kingsport in a station wagon before Washington County had a Special Education program. She also served as an aide in the classroom for Special Ed for many years and was loved and respected by students and parents. She loved her work and was dedicated to the students she served.

She was a faithful member of Greendale Chapel for many years and loved her church family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex Eugene Jackson; and one son, Rickie Jackson.

Survivors include her daughter, Vickie Evans and husband Cliff of Kingsport, TN; two granddaughters, Samantha Monroe and Kayla Monroe; one brother, Jerry McCrady of Wytheville, Va; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Greendale Chapel with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until time of the funeral service. Graveside service will be held Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Old Glade Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Glade Spring, Virginia. Honorary pallbearers will be Men of Greendale Chapel, Tom Williams, and Special Education Bus Drivers, past and present.

The family would like to extend special thanks to neighbor Carolyn Keesee, the Washington County Life Saving Crew. the staff at Select Specialty Hospital, her many Friends, her Pastor, and Church Family.
