James C. "Jack" Atwell, age 101, passed away on August 15, 2026.

He was born in 1925 in Washington County, Va and was the son of Scott and Minnie Atwell.

Mr. Atwell lived his entire life in the Whites Mill/ Greendale community. Jack was on several county and state boards and commissions, and was also a farmer, and business owner. He was also involved in the banking and insurance industries. Jack was a World War II Army veteran and was a recipient of two purple hearts.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mary, one son, Blane; siblings, Raymond, Carl, Edith, and Gay.

He is survived by two sons Frank and John (Maribel), nieces, Angela Hopkins, and Lisa Sanderson; one nephew, Larry Grubb.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, Va at 10:00 A.M with the Rev Jerry A. Eggers, and Pastor Marsha Rasnake. Full military honors will be rendered.
