Harry James Wright, Sr., 93, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia.

Harry was born March 21, 1930, in Washington County, Virginia to the late Alfred and Frances Wright. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, Harry returned to Washington County and remained a life-long resident. He retired from Reynolds Metals after many years of service. Harry was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by his son, Harry James (Jimmy) Wright, Jr.; one sister, Vivian Potter; three brothers, Alfred Milton Wright, Jr., Donald Wright, and Sammy Wright.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Marie Roark Wright; three daughters, Patricia Cullop Pack, Brenda Wright Coons and husband Fritz, and Teresa Wright Hewitt; eight grandchildren, Glen Cullop, Jr., Rick Coons, Josh Coons, Alex Coons, Fritz (Bubba) Coons, Christa Hewitt, Trey Hewitt, and Harry James (Jimmy) Wright, III. Harry is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 P.M. with the Reverend Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Army National Guard and the Virginia Highlands Honor Guard.
