In Loving Memory of Guy "Jerry" Taylor

With broken hearts, the family of Guy "Jerry" Taylor, 84, of Abingdon, announces his passing on Father's Day, June 15, 2025.

Jerry was born at home on March 30, 1941, in Cedar Bluff near Damascus. He attended the one-room schoolhouse in Cedar Bluff and graduated from Bethel. He made his home in Abingdon with his "only love," Carol Montgomery Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Franklin and Mary Ruth Denton Taylor; his brothers, Jack and Steve; his in-laws, Frank and Betty Montgomery; a special uncle, Glen Denton; and cousin, Tony Denton.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Taylor; his children, Kevin Taylor, Lisa Kite (Chris), and Luke Taylor; and his grandchildren, Dustin Kite, Zane Kite, Sage Kite, and Charlotte "Charlie" Taylor. He is also survived by his sisters, Glennie Jones, Ruth Ann Croghan, and Jean Zimmerman; and one sister-in-law Shirley Taylor.

Jerry never met a stranger. A quick trip to the grocery store often turned into an hour-long visit because he loved sharing stories and jokes with everyone he met. Above all, he loved sharing the truth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. His greatest hope was for everyone to know Jesus personally.

He was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing with his wife and children. Even with a prosthetic leg, he never let anything stop him from enjoying the outdoors and making memories with his family. Those moments spent in nature were among his most cherished, filled with laughter, storytelling, and quiet appreciation for God's creation.

His children are eternally grateful for the love he gave so freely and for being "the best Dad in the world." We will always remember your daily calls, just to say, "I don't want to bother you—just wanted you to know how much I love you." We will miss you every day, Dad.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. with service to follow at Frost Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and Pastor Les Ketron officiating. A committal service will follow going in procession at Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Damascus, Virginia.

Servings as pallbearers will be, Frankie O'quin, Kevin Collins, Michael Collins, Ritchie Hooker, Dustin Kite and Zane Kite.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Butch Bowers, Bud Rowe, Ottie Thomas, Reb Stiltner, Sage Kite, Darrell Holman, Ron Blevins, Sammy Price, Robbie Robinette, Eddie Holmes and Dr. William Mark Handy and his staff

His favorite quote: "Don't worry about the load, just pull the wagon."
