Gene "John" Schmidt, Jr passed away at Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee on February 20, 2026.

John was born in Michigan to the late Sally and Gene John Schmidt, Sr. He graduated from South Green High School, Greenville, Tennessee and was a former member of the National Guard who worked in the manufacturing industry. Prior to his death he lived in Bristol, Virgina where he resided at NHC Healthcare. John will be missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and those who knew him.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Joseph Cummings, and two grandchildren of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
