July 23, 1937 – April 5, 2026
Gay Nelle Kegley went to be with her Lord and Savior on Easter morning.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Kegley; her parents, Willard “Punch” Wooten and Ann Wooten; and her brother, Johnny Wooten.
Survivors include her son, Shane Kegley, and his wife, Becky, whom she loved dearly. Becky was a Godsend to her. She is also survived by six grandsons: Cody Kegley, Dalton Kegley, Dillion Kegley, Dereck Neece, Andrew Neece, and Jamie Neece. Many nights, she prayed for all six of them. Her special granddaughters include Heather Neece, Brandy Neece, Rayanna Neece, Britton Thomas, Molly McDavid, and Nichole Enscore. She also had several great-grandchildren, whom she loved and asked about daily.
Gay Nelle also leaves behind special friends who stood by her throughout her illness: Rose McCrosky, Christine White, Dorothy Taylor, Jerry Townsend (Paula), Peewee Stout (Janet), Mary Brooks, Kevin Brewer, Jason Brewer, Rooster Brewer, Barbara Bott, Brenda Bott, Jan Bott, Joyce Bott, and Hippie Hale.
Shane and Becky would like to thank all the neighbors, their children, and grandchildren who helped care for her and showed such kindness, as well as extend a special thanks to Angels Care Hospice, Sharon Gilbert, and Bruce Higinbotham.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia with Pastor Roger Hearl and Pastor Larry “P.T.” Glover. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Gay’s grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Stout, Jerry Townsend, Ron McCroskey, Mike Stanley, Kevin Brewer, Jason Brewer, Woodrow Brewer, Wayne Stout, Fred Andis, Joe Andis, Bob Andis, Hippie Hale, R.C. Hayter, and Jerry Little.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
