Gary Randell Childress, age 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born on July 20, 1946, in Ohio, he was the son of the late John and Tory Childress.

Gary made his home in Bristol, Virginia, for the past 20 years after moving from Kentucky. A hardworking and determined man, he was the proud owner and operator of Childress Trucking Co. for many years before later working for Lakeside Concrete. Gary had a deep love for classic cars, especially his old Volkswagen, which he enjoyed showing at local car shows.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Childress and Carmel Childress, and two sisters, Lou Lebo and Thelma Craig.

He is survived by his loving wife, Magdalene Smith Childress, of Bristol, Virginia; one son, Kurt Childress, of Kentucky; one cherished granddaughter; and several great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Dave Gibson. A committal service will be conducted on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at KnollKreg Memorial Park Mausoleum.
