Gary Wayne Blackwell, 74, of Abingdon, VA. passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday October 15th, 2022.

He was born on November 22,1947 to the late Bill and Betty Jane Blackwell.

He graduated from Hiwassee College in 1968 and from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1971. Gary worked for many years as a carrier for The Bristol Herald Courier. He retired from Kroger's in Abingdon in 2020 after 31 years of dedicated service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Blackwell.

He is survived by his daughter, Emily Jane Blackwell; sister, Shirley Lowe; and brother, John Blackwell.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 11 A.M. at the Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Katherine Boardwine officiating. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to arrive at the funeral home by 10:15 A.M. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Dean Blackwell, Charles Blackwell, Billy Blackwell, Gary Dutton, Jerry Price, and Jeff Blevins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Helton and Dale Phipps.
