Ella Louise Widener Owens, 72, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Ella was born March 25, 1951, to Mary Thomas Widener and the late Willard Widener. She loved to sit around the house in her pajamas while watching Blue Bloods and anything to do with true crime. Above all, she adored her family, and they will remember her as someone who was easy to talk to.

In addition to her father, Ella is preceded in death by her husband, James Cecil Owens, Sr.; two sisters, Tina Johnson and Geneva Widener; great-granddaughter, Zadie Owens; and son-in-law, Jerry Widener.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Thomas Widener; three children, Rita Widener, Jamie Owens, and Crystal (Corie Aliff) Owens; two sisters, Elsie Thomas and Elizabeth Thomas; two brothers, Tim Widener and Junior Widener; five grandchildren, Megan Owens, Haley Debord, Hunter Baumgardner, Hannah Baumgardner, and Corie Taylor; one great-grandchild, Easton Rutledge; special great-niece, Casey Johnson. Ella is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Glade Spring, Virginia with Pastor Steve Wilfert officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to convene at the cemetery by 2:45 P.M.

Jamie Owens, Megan Owens, Corie Aliff, Dalton Debord, Jesse Rutledge, and Gibson McPeek will serve as pallbearers. Hunter Baumgardner, Jayden Bailey, Hannah Baumgardner, Haley Debord, and Casey Johnson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
