Obituary

Glade Spring, Virginia

After fighting a long battle over several years against dementia, Donald Lee Wright, Sr of Glade Spring, VA went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 30, 2023. Throughout his life, Don was an educator of the youth of southwest Virginia serving as a teacher at the Washington County Technical School and later as Director of the Virginia High School Career and Technical Education Department. Don also worked tirelessly on his much-loved family farm his entire life. He volunteered for many church and community organizations including the Washington County Farm Bureau and served as a member of the Washington County Board of Supervisors. However, his greatest joy and accomplishment was being a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren.

Don is survived by his two children, Beth Wright Litz and Lee Wright (Cindy) of Glade Spring. His precious grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Litz and Sandy and Wyatt Wright. His brother-in-law John D. Gentry (Ann) of Taylor's Valley, VA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Don is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Sarah Gentry Wright, his parents Bob (Red) and Ruth Wright, his sister and brother-in-law Nancy Wright Carter and John Carter, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Amelia Gentry Collins and Roy David Gentry, stepfather-in-law Lester Collins and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Brenda Gentry.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 on Wednesday, October 4 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Glade Spring followed by a service at 2:00. At the conclusion a graveside service will be held at Old Glade Presbyterian Church in Glade Spring. Pallbearers will be Jason Lester, Glenn Faris, Bill Faris, Andy Puckett, Alan McCall, and Frank Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the following in Don's name to American Cancer Society, Grace Presbyterian Church, or Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.
