Obituary

Dolly Jane Reynolds Payne, age 54, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend whose caring heart touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on June 30, 1972, Dolly was the daughter of Bobby Lee Reynolds Sr. and the late Wanda Jean Reynolds. She was known for her warm heart, compassionate spirit, and the love she so freely gave to others. Dolly had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every moment spent creating memories with those she loved. Through her strength, grace, and selfless nature, she inspired countless people and will be remembered with deep affection.

In addition to her mother, Dolly was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Lee Reynolds; her grandparents, Roy and Ruby Barker, John Banner, and Dorothy Reynolds; her father-in-law, David Payne; her mother-in-law, Judy Payne; and several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Joseph Eugene Payne Sr.; her father, Bobby Lee Reynolds Sr.; her son, Joseph Eugene Payne Jr. and his fiancée, Kay Nault; her treasured grandchildren, Daisy Rose Payne, Ivy Jane Payne, and Jaxson “Bug” Dean Payne; her brother, Bobby Lee Reynolds Jr.; her sister, Juanita Jean Reynolds; her brother-in-law, Wayne Payne; her sisters-in-law, Beth Payne and Susan Wright; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Dolly's kindness, laughter, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. While her presence will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and the enduring love she shared throughout her life.

A funeral service will be held at Holston Valley Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia, with Pastor Shannon Smith officiating. Service details will be announced at a later time.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time and asks that Dolly be remembered for the compassion, generosity, and joy she shared so freely with everyone she met.

The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia, to assist with final funeral expenses.
