On September 29, 2026, Daren Leon Salyer lost his life to leukemia.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leon Salyer, and his brother Darrell Salyer.

He is survived by son Derek Salyer; 2 daughters, Kaitlyn Shelton and husband Heath Shelton, and Ashleigh Salyer; one grandchild, Leia Byrd; the most beautiful, kind, gracious woman he ever knew, Tammy Salyer; his mother, Peggy Salyer; 1 sister, Brenda Salyer-Head and husband Jeff Head; three brothers, Dwight Salyer and wife Shelia Salyer, Daniel (Dan-o) Salyer and wife Jane Salyer, and Gary Salyer; sister-in-law Diane Salyer; several special nieces and nephews and their spouses; his adorable great-nieces and nephews; one uncle, three aunts, and several cousins.

He was an Air Force veteran who loved to play golf with Derek, tennis with Kaitlyn, bowling with Ashleigh, and target shooting with Heath. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.

In his own words, he said, “I’m not really all that smart, I just know a lot of useless information, which helped with Jeopardy.”

He also wanted to remind everyone of a quote by the late Warren Zevon, who passed under similar circumstances, “Enjoy every sandwich.”

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia.
