Claribel Hayter
Hockett
May 16, 1933 — Oct 5, 2026
Claribel Hayter Hockett, age 93 of Emory, Virginia passed away on October 5, 2026, at the Abingdon Health and Rehab Center.
Caribel was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Carrie Foster Hayter. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo Hockett Sr, and her brother Roscoe Hayter Jr.
She is survived by her daughters Eloise Hockett and Nancy Castillo, son Leo "Bud" Hockett, Jr., daughter in law Helen Hockett, grandchildren Devin Castillo, Carol Boudreaux (Joe), Ty Hockett (Tanya), great grandchildren: Daxtyn Castillo, Jake Boudreaux (Ally), Joey Boudreaux (Savannah), Emory Friedman (Jon), Mason Carroll (Gavin), and Peyton Hockett (Dan) and her great great granddaughter Claribel Friedman.
Claribel was a member of Glade Spring Baptist Church and was a long-term employee of Emory and Henry College. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Glade Spring Baptist Church "Good for Nothing Ministry". These Godly men and women ministered to Claribel many times by visiting and working on her house. They would take "nothing" in return thus the "do good for nothing" title. She considered them close friends and greatly appreciated each person and every visit.
The family would like to thank the close friends and neighbors that meant so much to her, especially people at her church, Bobby Duncan, Jean and Ronnie Musick, and Fred Holbrook are just a few.
Also, a special appreciation to Martha VanHuss, who was one of her loving care givers.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at Holston Conference Cemetery, Emory, VA. with Minister Ronnie Musick officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M.
Pallbearers are Ty Hockett, Joey Boudreaux, Jake Boudreaux, Devin Castillo, and Bobby Duncan. We would also like to thank the wonderful nurses and aids at the Abingdon Rehab Center that took such good care of her.
Frost Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the family of Ms. Claribel Hayter Hockett.
