Obituary

Carlos Jackson “Carl Jack” Dale, 93, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was born in 1932 in Russell County, Virginia, to the late Reverend Ira Earnest Dale and Mary Magdalene King Dale.

Carl Jack was a hardworking man who spent his career with Russell Manufacturing, West Virginia Electric Company, Pittston Coal Group, and Lebanon Block and Supply Company. He took great pride in providing for his family and in the work, he did throughout his life.

Carl Jack was passionate about farming. He loved raising crops, caring for his cattle, and spending time on the farm. Above all, he cherished being surrounded by his family and friends. In his later years, he discovered a special enjoyment in coloring, creating many beautiful pieces of artwork that he was proud to share with others.

In addition to his parents, Carl Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Hubble Dale; his great-grandson, Gabriel Christian Dale; and his siblings, Elbert Edward “Bill” Dale, Earnest “June” Dale, Jr., Fred Donald Dale, James Elliot Dale, Virginia “Jenny” Dale Salyer, Mary Alice Dale Salyer, and Kathleen “Kat” Dale Carty.

He is survived by his children, Jackson Ray Dale and wife Teresa of Bristol, Tennessee; Jewell Dale Moore and husband Paul of Daleville, Virginia; and Ernest Edward “Ernie” Dale of Roanoke, Virginia; his grandchildren, Myron Timothy Dale and wife Charlotte and Whitley Dale Grunstra and husband Jonathan; and his great-grandchildren, Michael Timothy Dale, Blake William Grunstra, and Cayden Alexander Grunstra. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Dale Nunley; several nieces and nephews; and his special childhood friend, Patsy Campbell.

Carl Jack will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of farming, his enjoyment of the simple things in life, and most of all, the love he shared with his family and friends. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 12, 2026, from 12:30 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home, 250 E. Main St., Abingdon, Virginia. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Herb Peak Jr and Pastor Mark McFadden officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Carty, David Nunley, Philip Dale, Greg Dale, Chris Dale, and Jeff Dale.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be Robert Cross, David Price, and Giles Price.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating the life and memory of Carl Jack Dale.
