Bobbi
Scalf
Sep 1, 1981 — Nov 1, 2026
Bobbi Morrell Scalf of Mosheim, Tennessee passed away peacefully at Franklin Woods Medical Center in Johnson City on Sunday, November 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on September 1, 1981, to Bobby Scalf and Charlotte McCray Scalf.
Morrell was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Scalf and Charlotte McCray Scalf; her maternal grandparents, Rev. Roy McCray and Rev. Havis & Dorothy Litton McCray Crawford; her paternal grandparents, Heenon and Minnie Pinson Scalf; one uncle, Dowell Richardson, and two aunts, Barbara Scalf Browzowski and Mary Ellen Dye.
Morrell is survived by her son, the light of her life, Jacob Alan Wright, and his fiancé, Chelsie Taylor, of Mosheim. Morrell was the second of four children, and she is survived by her sisters: Olivia (Dathan) Wedel of Decatur, Texas; Tyrel (Lucas) Shelley of Bristol, Virginia; and her brother, Daniel (Courtney) Scalf of McClure, Virginia. She was a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews: Dalton, Raylan, Elijah, Aubrey, and Destinee. Morrell is also survived by her aunts and uncles: David and Sandy Scalf, Kenneth and Billie Jean Scalf, Larry and Lisa Scalf, and Billy Scalf, all of Pikeville, Kentucky; Jack and Betty Lou Gartin of Rutledge, Tennessee; Jackie Richardson of Bristol, Virginia; Jim and Sherie Horton of Blountville, Tennessee; Howard and Sharon Dye of Meadowview, Virginia; and Rev. Roger and Doris O’Quinn and Tommy and Judy Litton, all of Abingdon, Virginia. Morrell leaves behind very special cousins, extended family members on both sides, and several special friends in southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee.
Morrell grew up in the Brumley Gap community near Abingdon in Washington County, Virginia where she graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1999. She was part of the Rebel Regiment on the drum line for two years and was active in the high school choir all four years. She was active for a period as an EMT with Valley Rescue Squad and that’s where her love of healthcare began. Morrell loved playing the piano and could sing beautifully. She went on to take classes at High Point University and Virginia Highlands Community College before moving to Greene County, Tennessee. Her son, Jacob, was born on January 1, 2005, at 12:01 AM at Laughlin Memorial Hospital, and she was so excited that he was the ‘New Year’s Baby’ for northeast Tennessee that year. Morrell was a loving and doting mother, and Jacob remained a source of joy for her throughout her life.
She worked in management for Pizza Plus in Bulls Gap, Tennessee while pursuing her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Walters State Community College. She graduated with honors in May 2008 and worked briefly for Bulls Gap Medical Center. She was hired as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with Mountain States Health Alliance at Johnson City Medical Center in July 2011. She worked there for several years before transitioning to Greeneville Community Hospital in 2022, where she worked through mid-summer of 2026. Her co-workers and friends in the medical community affectionately called her ‘Mo’ and she was described by many as an angel of respiratory care with her approach in helping people.
Morrell enjoyed cooking, baking, being with her family, playing the piano, and cheering the Kentucky Wildcats. The holiday season in November and December, through Jacob’s birthday on New Year’s Day, was her favorite time of year. She was known for her holiday baking and loved taking homemade goodies to co-workers for birthday celebrations. She always decorated her home for the holidays and loved carrying on the tradition of making her mother’s homemade bread. Morrell had a big heart for helping others. She enjoyed traveling and absolutely loved the Carolina coast from Kure Beach to the Outer Banks.
The family extends a very special and heartfelt thank you to Annette Silvers, Morrell’s dearest friend, who provided diligent, kind, and supportive care to her in the last few months of her life, including the night of her passing; along with Kim Jessee and the other nurses in ICU and Progressive Care at Franklin Woods. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the members of Brumley Gap Methodist Church.
A visitation with family will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia. The funeral will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Frost Funeral Home with her uncle, Rev. Roger O’Quinn, officiating. Morrell will be buried near her mother at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon immediately following the funeral. Pallbearers will be her son, Jacob Wright; her brother, Daniel Scalf; and her first cousins: Pete Richardson, Ryder Richardson, Jason Counts, Justin Horton, Mitchell Scalf, Joseph Scalf, Jason Gartin, Derrick Dye, Israel O’Quinn, and Morgan O’Quinn. Honorary pallbearers are three of her childhood friends: Neal Gosnell, Donald Scott, and Ben Tweed.
The world is a better place because Morrell lived, and we have no doubts she was overjoyed to make it to Heaven and be reunited with her parents and other loved ones gone on before. She is happy and whole with Jesus.
Frost Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the family of Ms. Scalf.
