Billy Ray
Blevins
Mar 9, 1955 — Aug 22, 2026
Billy “Buckwheat” Ray Blevins, age 71, of Abingdon, Virginia passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy health battle.
Billy was born on March 9, 1955, in the Alvarado community of Abingdon Virginia to the late Manuel and Clara Blevins.
Billy spent many years on the open road as a dedicated truck driver, logging countless miles and sharing stories from every corner of the country. Billy could always provide everyone with a good laugh by sharing a story from the open road. He owned his own truck and also drove for other companies like Candyland Express as well. When he wasn't behind the wheel, he could be found enjoying quality time with his family and friends. He loved being in the great outdoors, hunting with his beloved beagles in the woods during hunting season or enjoying the quiet of nature while fishing. Billy also enjoyed going to local area football games with family and friends to cheer on his favorite teams. He was a man of hard work, simple pleasures, and deep love for his family.
Billy attended Alvarado Bible Church for many years. He was a caring husband, loving father and grandfather. Above all, Billy loved his family deeply and treasured the time he spent with those he loved.
Billy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Blevins; his daughters, Heather Blevins (Cody Martelli) of Abingdon, Virginia, Natasha Lewis (Nick) of Abingdon, Virginia and his grandson, Braxten Lewis. Billy is also survived by his sisters, Joan Wilkerson, Freda Watson, Judy Blevins, Alice Garner and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his brothers Eddie Blevins, Tim Blevins and Tommy Blevins. Also, by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Goldie Widner, his brother-in-law James Widner, his sisters-in-law Rhonda Roberts and Margaret Hawkins, great niece Haley Neal and great nephew Blake Wright.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 5:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 P.M with Pastor Junior Gobble and Chaplain Jim Tunnell officiating.
