Billy Gene
Hoss
March 16, 1941 – April 17, 2026
Billy Gene Hoss went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17, 2026, at his home.
Born on March 16, 1941, he was the son of the late William “Bill” Hoss and Hazel Goodson Hoss. Billy was a lifelong resident of the Black Hollow community of Washington County before moving to Clinch Mountain Road in Saltville, Virginia. He was a retired truck driver, having driven for Kern’s Bakery and Roger’s Trucking, where he was affectionately known as “Pappy.”
Billy had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He often described himself as a “hobby farmer,” a role he embraced after retiring from trucking. He considered it a true blessing to live on the “old mountain,” where he could enjoy the beauty of God’s creation each day. He was rarely seen without his constant companion and faithful dog by his side.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Daisy May Gill.
He is survived by his children, Dennis Hoss (Bonita), Teresa Helton (David), Daniel Hoss (Missy), and Karen Austin (Bobby); his grandchildren, Brian Helton, Tracy Blankenship (Justin), Jared Hoss (Emily), Lane Hoss, and Adam Gill (Lacey); and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 4:00 P.M. at his family cemetery on Clinch Mountain Road. Those planning to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 3:30 P.M.
Pallbearers will be Brian Helton, Jared Hoss, Lane Hoss, Harry Jessee, Bobby Alexander, and Kenneth Sexton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Roe, Dan Roe, Joe Woods, and Steve McCall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity close to Billy’s heart, which he proudly supported for the past 13 years.
Billy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Mr. Billy Gene Hoss.
