Anita Sue Cooper, 74, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, at Commonwealth Senior Living.

She was born in McDowell County, WV, and had lived in Buchanan County for many years before making her home in the Abingdon area for past 30 years. Anita was a retired nurse having served in the field for over 40 years. She had worked at Buchanan General Hospital and Johnston Memorial Hospital. Anita enjoyed traveling, hot air balloons and listening to Elvis. She loved her family and adored spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Millard Cooper; four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her two sons, Todd Cooper and wife, Angela, and Wesley Cooper; three grandchildren, Megan, Anna Kate and Tyde Cooper; one sister, Peggy Cooper; one brother, Clay Payne and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Commonwealth Senior Living and Caris Healthcare for their care.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 17, at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, in the Cooper Family Cemetery near Peapatch in Buchanan County, Va. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.
