Frost Funeral Home
Mar 14, 2019
Ova Juanita Price Elliott,
97, of Abingdon, VA, joyfully went to be with her Lord on the morning of March
14, 2019 while surrounded by family at her home in Abingdon, VA. She was preceded in death by her devoted
husband, William “Bill” Elliott in 2005.
Ova was born on a farm in Washington County, VA on
August 26, 1921. She was the youngest of
7 children born to William Thomas Price and Mollie Dove Price. After graduating from Radford College in 1943,
she went on to become a registered dietician and worked at Walter Reed General
Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital. After
returning home, she obtained her LPN degree as well and continued her work at
Johnston Memorial Hospital as a registered dietician until she retired.
On August 4, 1950, Ova and Bill were married at Abingdon
United Methodist Church where they remained lifelong members. They traveled with their 4 children
throughout the United States by car and camper to see all of the natural
wonders and landmarks while teaching their children, by example, the importance
of faith, family and unconditional love.
Ova enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, walking and gardening. She remained active with her church for 70
years, working with the UMW’s missions organization and her church circle. She attended the Booklovers Club and was a
member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition to caring for her husband, children, neighbors and a
multitude of dogs, cats and birds, “Mimi” loved being a grandmother and
great-grandmother.
Left to honor and remember their mother are: Beverly
(Michael) Crockett of Marietta, GA; William “Mark” (Eloise) Elliott of
Princeton, WV; Patti (Denny) Farmer of Abingdon, VA; and Susan Elliott of Gate
City, VA. Ova especially loved and
adored her 16 grandchildren: Jason (Jessica Nicole) Meade of Marietta, GA;
Jessica Ann Meade of Kennesaw, GA; Morgan (Thomas) O’Bryan of Newport News, VA;
Brooke (Mike) Jackson of Blacksburg, VA; Aaron (Sheena) Elliott of Springfield,
VA; Jennifer (John Kandrac) Elliott of Washington, DC; Megan (AJ) Fitzgerald of
Alexandria, VA; Sarah Farmer of Cary, NC; and Nicholas (Meghan) Farmer of
Hendersonville, NC. “Mimi” was proud to
be a great-grandmother to Savannah and Raleigh, Quinn and Spencer, Darcy, John
and Thea, Elliott and Tre, Xander and Annabelle. All remain extremely blessed to have Mimi in
their lives.
Ova is also survived by several special nieces, nephews
and cousins who she loved dearly. The
annual Dove Family Reunion brought together relatives from all over the
country. Her family cannot fail to
mention their mother’s faithful companion, Allie the Cat.
The Elliott family would like to extend their gratitude
to the loving care provided to their mother by Patsy Robins, Maria Hash,
Barbara Burks and Peggy Mabe, in addition to Christine and Brittany with
Century Hospice Care.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday,
March 23, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Abingdon United Methodist Church, with Rev.
Robert Countiss officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time
of service. Burial will immediately
follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park. In
lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Abingdon
United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for
Parkinson’s Research.
